The Wallon Region has been devising a new effective,, social and eco-friendly mobility policy for years, with a special attention to « weaker »road-users such as pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders, as well as their own facilities. As a proof the Region created the RAVeL, devised the recent Voies vertes (Green Ways) concept or came up with rehabilitation projects for municipal by-paths.
For that purpose the Minister of Home affairs and Public Service, Philippe COURARD, launched a pilot project " Plan d’Itinéraires Communaux Verts " or " PICVerts "(Map of Municipal Green Routes)in March 2005
13 municipality were first selected to implement the project. The municipality.
of Hotton was one of them

  • WHAT KIND OF ROUTE IS THE MUNICIPLAITY GOING TO DEVELOP?
The municipality is going to develop an 850m route linking up the Hotton centre with the Pré-RAVeL leading to Erezée via the Ny village surroundings.
Within the framework of its own PCDR, the Erezée municipality will be developping the rest of the route (about 5 km) until the Erezée bridge, where the Aisne Tourist tramway departs.

That route will first go through the alley linking up rue Haute with rue des Vergers and rue du Levant, then through rue Haie Notre-Dame and finally end at the former S.N.C.V. track (nr 620) which has already been integrated into a “Pré--RAVeL” area.

Within the framework of the ministerial subsidies, public works will be carried out i order to enwiden that alley, so far as possible. Those public works include new lighting and marking through the whole route.
  • WHICH ROAD USERS CAN TRAVEL ALL OVER THAT ROUTE? ARE THEY LESS REACHABLE ROUTE SECTIONS?

The route will be reachable for any kind of road users (pedestrians, cyclists, rollerbladers and mobility disabled people).
Horse riders are welcome on the route but unfortunately they won’t find the most appropriate road surface for horse hiking.

  • WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF THOSE NEW FACILITIES?
What everyday mobility concerns that new route will offer the inhabitants the opportunity to go to the Hotton centre (municipal administration, shops, sports, cultural and leisure centres…) from Ny and to reach later the neighboring villages of Soy, Fisenne and Érezée on a safe route avoiding the motorway (N807). Moreover the route will go through a major building area (comprising about 70 new houses and a shopping mall) that should be developped in the « En Rahisse » sector.

Hikers can already experiment various route sections integrated in pedestrian and horse hiking routes.

The Pré-RAVeL existing between Hotton and Ny offers splendid view over the alluvial plain of the Ourthe river and the Naives brook (Natura 2000) and is located not far from the Ny village (one of the  22 « Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie  ») most beautiful villages in Wallonia) and its castle-farm (classified monument), pedagogical farm where various touristic and cultural events take place.
